Pascal & Associates: Design Portfolio
Two covers I did for a longevity magazine. Nice examples of geometrical grid-style layout.
Four cover designs for the literary journal Unreal City.
Greater love hath no marketing guy than he give up his logo for his client. The Fitness Studio of Pittsford was so taken with my own logo that I modified it slightly for them and let them have the above result.
This logo was for a writers’ group called R-spec. I based it on the CBS Eye and the Martian war machines in Wells’ War Of The Worlds. Universally panned, it evolved into this:

More elegant and professional, to be sure. (Though I still have a sneaking affection for the clunky one.)

This logo was for Jerry and Sarah DeSimone of J & S DeSimone Booksellers. The perfect logo for a perfect couple — two of the nicest people I’ve ever known, bibliophiles par excellence, and owners of J & S DeSimone Books.

From traditional to modern: this one was for a marketing firm emphasizing psychographics. The ‘M’ for marketing is set in a Necker cube, the classic psych 101 perception figure.

Book covers. The one of the right was intended to accompany an ebook version of a classic text on nanotechnology. The one on the left was designed for a book by philosopher and mathematician Robert C. W. Ettinger. He didn’t care for it and it went the way of the wastebasket. But I still like it.
There are a ton of book designs I’ve done on the book design page, incidentally. Click over and see a few.

Proposal covers — the meat and potatoes of corporate american design.

Like all web guys I occasionally create sites just for practice and my own pleasure, and to work with CSS and other technical stuff. Above is an example — a site that scrolls sideways. I’ve been thinking of sending it up to CSS Zen Garden, hence the standard Zen Garden headline and content.

Another example of fun with quirky but interesting push-the-envelope CSS design. This was a quick one-page site intended to announce an photography exhibition by John Retallack, who is as fine a photographer as he is a friend.
And yes, that’s me between the Colleagues and the Residents.

Screensavers are where I cut my teeth on the power and the glory that is Photoshop. (They’re also an underrated marketing tools, but that’s another story.) Above are a few I did as a promotional extra for J & S DeSimone Booksellers.
Below are a couple of illustrations that ended up in magazines or displays.

Season’s Greetings! I put together this little tribute to Rosser Reeves, Haibane Renmei, and the classic cigarette ad layouts of the Fifties for Walt Ketchum’s annual Christmas Card collection on AdHub. The Rochester Business Journal called it ‘intriguing’, which was a nice holiday present in itself.
I don’t really think of myself as a pure designer. Good marketing happens when good design, good copy, good research, and good practices come together. It always kind of surprises me when people like the look of something I’ve done and hire me for pure design work.
It surprises me — but I don’t turn them down.
So if you’re interested in using me just for design or layout, call me at 585 – 643 – 1167. Or drop me a note from my contact page.
